Deepen Your Understanding
This is a 4-week series designed to enliven your relationship to the form and action in many postures that you see every single time you come to class. The amazing thing about diving deep into the alignment of poses on a basics syllabus is that it will be the base for every level of pose to come. A solid foundation sets the stage for immense opportunity as your practice develops. If you have been longing for more personal and detailed instruction in your postures, this is the intensive for you.
- Week One: Foundations
We will use this first class to get really clear on Tadasana (Mountain Pose), Uttanasana (Forward Fold), Adho Muka Svanasana (Downward Facing Dog) and Utthita Parsvakonasana (Standing Side Angle Pose). Working from the ground up, this session will focus on the basic shape and action of each of these quintessential postures.
- Week Two: Hand Balance Basics
Whether you are in the building stages of these poses or are working on refinement, our second class together will focus on building the strength and flexibility needed to achieve optimal alignment in Adho Muka Vrksasana (Handstand), Pincha Mayurasana (Forearm Balance), Vasisthasana (Side Plank) and Bakasana (Crow).
- Week Three: Principles of Twists
This class will make clear not only the difference between a twist and a turn but also educate on how to effectively mobilize the spine through revolved standing poses and seated twists.
- Week Four: Backbend Basics
Setu Bandha (Bridge), Chatush Padasana (Bridge variation), Urdhva Dhanurasana (Wheel) are some of the most symmetrical backbends and also serve as the gateway into many of the deeper bends. Refining your action in these postures is important for safely expanding your practice. In this class we will continue to mobilize the upper back along with cultivating a deeper opening in the shoulders and quadriceps.
