Ashtanga Workshop Series with Jessica Becker

Ashtanga Yoga, a traditional energetic purification practice.

Young athletic man in white pants doing yogaConsistent practice reveals our connection to the great cosmic creation, strengthens the physical body, soothes the nervous system and quiets the mind. In the Ashtanga tradition, the intention is to practice six times per week to gain the optimal benefits the sequence has to offer. This 4-week series provides an overview of the Ashtanga tradition with a focus on the classic elements that combine to make the lineage unique and well-rounded.

This will include instruction and discussion of the primary series of postures: sun salutations, standing poses, seated poses, inverted poses and finishing practices, all woven together by breath. It also includes techniques designed to create, contain and focus energy. Both an introduction to Ashtanga as well as an invitation to go deeper with the practice.

The sessions will build on each other and each will begin with an invocation and sun salutations. Each will end with closing postures and savasana with time to discuss that days work.

All levels will benefit from the alignment instruction in this class.

Session 1: Surya Namaskar A and the Standing Sequence.
